Job Description
Summary/Purpose  
Metal forming is a core technology within company.  Internal tool design is a key aspect of companies’ metal forming technology.  The job exists to retain forming knowledge and tool design expertise at Greenville. The job supports new item launches and customer sample orders that directly impact plant productivity and product quality. Projects normally have a high priority and visibility throughout the company.  Incumbent frequently works with deadlines directly tied to customer delivery requirements.
Tool design projects often involve process development to obtain higher production rates and part quality improvement or to enable new product development. Many of the projects are leading edge technology projects where a new process must be created (or an existing one substantially improved) to create a competitive advantage.
 
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:  
•   Develop concepts & detailed tooling designs for complex forming tools/dies (single station, multi-stage progressive, transfer, multi-slide and roll mill) using Pro-Engineer.
•   Conduct process capability studies, calculate statistical information, and interpret results.
•   Develop training programs and oversee the training of plant personnel in the operation of new tooling concepts or forming processes.
•   Solve difficult and complex forming & tooling related problems.
•   Continually advance tool design technology to reduce tooling cost and lead time and improve productivity.
•   This position primarily supports multiple manufacturing locations in the South East.  Some overnight travel to manufacturing locations required (10-20%).  Some international travel may be required to collaborate with global technology/manufacturing locations.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:  
•   This position has no supervisory responsibilities.  
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  
•   The position requires experience with metal stamping/forming tool design and knowledge of tooling manufacturing processes.  Preference will be given to candidates with design experience and knowledge of a broad range of stamping/forming concepts using 3D CAD Solid modeling software.  The candidate must have an excellent mechanical aptitude, an understanding of electronic sensor technology and good theoretical/practical knowledge of metal forming processes.
•   The person must also be comfortable performing in a manufacturing environment and should have the ability to communicate and work effectively with people of differing backgrounds and responsibilities.
•   Working both individually, and at times within a team environment, possess the ability to problem solve a variety of tooling related issues.
 
Education and Experience:  
•   Mechanical Engineering degree or minimum 5 years of experience in Tool and Die design (Education and experience will influence pay grade.)

•   Work is mostly performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
•   The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
•   Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 10-20% of time.
