Job Description
This function exists to determine the impact of machine design, tooling, and operation on test performance to ensure existing test equipment runs properly and to develop new testing processes for needle roller bearings.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
•   Work with design and application engineering to develop test methods for specific test conditions (high temperature, contaminated lube, extreme loads or speeds).
•   Make modifications to the test rigs or assist in new test rig designs
•   Function as the first contact for troubleshooting undesirable test results. Coordinate with metallurgy, metrology, applications engineering, design engineering, and the prototype shop to rapidly determine root cause.
•   Develop and implement troubleshooting test procedures to act as a standard guide during root cause discovery.
•   Determine machine variables and new operating techniques or sensors to eliminate test-to-test variation and train technicians in these procedures.
•   Develop validation test sets that can be used to verify machine-machine equivalency and “spot-check” machine performance as part of test troubleshooting.
•   Work with R&D engineering to implement physical testing, data collection, and methods of modifying parameters, tooling, or machine to isolate specific targets.
•   Significant amount of hands-on work with mechanical systems, hydraulics, electronic controls, and lubrication systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities
•   This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•   Ability to determine correlations in multi-variable data sets
•   Ability to communicate detailed results and provide training to other associates
•   Must be able to design experiments to determine causes of improved or degraded bearing performance
•   Work with minimum supervision, self starter with focus on detail, tracking, and documentation
Education and Experience:
•   Required
o    BS in Engineering or equivalent
o    Three (3) plus years test experience or advanced degree
•   Desired
o    Bearing test experience
o    Programming experience with HBM, LabVIEW, or Visual Basic
o    Understanding of vibration analysis
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
•   The performance of this position requires exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
•   Hot oils, parts/slippery floors/varying low & high frequency noise levels. Occasional fumes/odors/working with oils
•   PPE required - safety glasses, steel toe shoes, ear plugs, and requirements to follow all safety guidelines
