Job Description

The purpose of this job is to provide Mechanical Design Engineering expertise including but not limited to, specifying, designing, documenting, and supporting other department heads in creating from scratch custom built machine tools with a specialty in grinding technologies..

Much of the time in this job is spent on mechanical and application design, computer aided design (CAD), and drawing creation as well as prototype building and project documentation. Our Senior Design Mechanical Engineer will meet with customers in person to identify their needs and design prototypes that cater to them. The Design Engineer may have managerial responsibility for Engineering Interns as well.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop specifications for all mechanical systems for newly created and custom build machines..

Perform design work using 3D computer aided design (CAD) and drawing creation in collaboration with customer’s machine systems integration.

Calculate and gather information for design of systems to be documented into customer installation systems.

Communicate with component suppliers and customers to verify correct design calculations and customer specifications by means of design reviews and component approvals.

Create 2D drawings/layouts/schematics and specification developments for integrated components.

Complete project documentation for both customer and internal manufacturing requirements.

Supplies technical expertise on complex components or projects with minimal supervision.

Leads small projects or portions of large projects.

Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.

Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.

Influences at department or program management level.

Provides input on program-related decisions.

Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.

Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.

Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.

Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.

Maintains knowledge of engineering principles and ethics, especially in mechanical engineering.

Maintains mechanical ability to analyze/size systems and/or failures and perform testing of subsystems on manufactured equipment.

Qualifications:

Senior level of design engineering experience. (Min 7 yrs)

Customer service experience.

Experience in consulting with OEM customers.

Application design experience.

Project management experience.

Masters or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
